Sanctuary

A poem by Lydia Kwa inspired by a painting by Remedios Varo

One

Bird-woman
barefoot in her castle

She channels the stars
concentrates moonlight
through left-handed prism

Music at her heart
creating

Two

I have flown here
to listen
to settle into
a breath

Nature thrives
within these walls

These lyrics were written in response to Creation of the Birds (Creacion del las Aves, 1958) a painting by Remedios Varo, a remarkable Surrealist painter.
