Stolen

A poem by Lydia Kwa, Earle Birney Poetry Prize winner

you say:
I’ve never owned my sexuality

meanwhile you’re acting it out
and blaming the rest of us

I wonder who stole your sexuality
or your capacity to question?

is it only me who cries for you?

you’re like a shadow
that doesn’t recognize where she belongs

my curiosity terrifies you
